Regina, My Tour of Duty

by Behrel Dom Camreal

Taken from Behrel Dom Camreal's Address to Regina voters at Aguilon Park.

I am going to ask you all to do something that most of the candidates specifically do not want you to do. I want you to think. Think about whom you want to be on the Senate representing you.

How much do you know about the candidates? How much do you know about me? Look at those that have been elected already. Political hacks, other people’s lackeys, energetic nobodies, and people with big names but no brains. Some would put me into the last group.

But, I will admit to you something they never will. I am selfish. I want to see my children grow up here on Regina. And I want to see that it is a place worth growing up in. I live here and do not want to see Regina manipulated by other companies or governments anymore that it already is, and less if possible. My wife lives here and I want her safe as well.

Did my opponents fight for Regina's freedom? Did they fight the Zhodani during the war? Or against pirates more recently? Do you want someone to fight for reasons you can understand? Or do you want someone who makes the effort for nebulous ideals?

Some ask how I could hope to represent you all. I can not, nor can anyone else except the Duchess. But I can represent me and so I will tell you some things about me. I started out a long ways from rich, not far from very poor. I got a reasonable but not exceptional education and then joined the Imperial Marines. There I rose to a rank just short of God, a First Sergeant.

From there I spent time in the Scout service and then I went looking for other work. I found it as a Mercenary among other things.

You know of my movies and movie company, both action and adult films. You know I have a clothing store and Eli's gym. You know I am a music producer too. Now I am wealthy, and my wife is wealthier that I, due to her family and hard work as a musician.

Now though I must think of John, Paul, George, and Ringo, I do not want to move away from Regina. I like it here in what some call the frontier. I like that I can wear weapons as I walk around and know that others around me do also. I like the reforms and starport maintenance that have happened recently too. These must continue.

If I can do only one thing well, I can fight. Who do you want on your side doing the fighting?
